I'm launching my Dwarf Project soon!!
In early June of this year (2025), I was fortunate enough to have received some rats from my mentor, Diana from Blue Stone Siamese Rattery in Maryland USA who are dwarf carriers!
My mentor has been integral in helping me to learn and grow, and in launching this project, which has been a goal for me since I discovered the existence of dwarfism in pet rats.
In August 2025, I will be pairing up my dwarf carriers, BSS Buddy Holly, BSS Clyde Barrow and BSS Charlie Chaplin with BSS Marilyn Monroe, BSS Bonnie Parker, and BSS Audrey Hepburn to begin working at producing dwarf rats for my rattery and pet homes.
The BSS rats are also descended from rats who originated from Rattatoullies Rattery in South Dakota, USA.
They are of excellent temperament and health, and I'm so thrilled to have the privilege of working with these beautiful rats for my project!
A Little About Dwarf Rats
In rats, dwarfism occurs when a rat produces less growth hormone than a standard sized rat. Due to the lack of growth hormone, dwarf rats are typically about 60%-70% smaller than standard rats.
Since they are much smaller, dwarf rats also eat less, and produce less waste. Less waste means less odour! They are generally healthier than standard rats because they are much less prone to tumours, and they live longer, too. Dwarf rats take up less space; however, it's still important to offer them an appropriately sized cage or enclosure.
