Lustrous/Satin2 Project

Recently in talking with my mentor and other breeders, it was discovered that the Lustrous, or Satin 2 gene is present in the rattery!

The source of this gene (in my rattery) comes from my wonderful partner and best friend, Taylor from Stellar Rattery.

Lustrous is a coat type that appears shiny or greasy, with  an unkempt look. Lighter rats with this coat type may have a yellowed look, due to the fatty fluids in the hair shaft, and often look greasy as babies. As babies, whiskers look crimped and blown back, straightening with age, but always looking a bit droopy.

I have decided to work on this as a project, because I love the look and feel of this coat, and feel that it will be fun and interesting.

Because I am confident in the stability and temperament of my foundation rats, I may offer Lustrous/Satin2 rats as pets after the first or second generation, depending how well I am able to produce them, and provided they're healthy.

I plan to eventually work this gene into a dwarf line, as well, so look for some Lustrous/Satin2 dwarves in the future!
